Junk Yard Dog

The other night while laying in bed, waiting for Lester to fall asleep, it had been quiet for about 5 minutes. So I thought he was already asleep because 5 minutes is A LONG time for a 4 year old to be quiet, but he must have just been pondering this thought because then out of the silent darkness followed this conversation.....

L: Mommy?

Me: Yes Lester.

L: Why did Bootzy leave us to go live at the pound?

Me: Well, Bootz did not leave us to go live at the pound, we rescued him from the pound. So before we got him from the pound, he didn't really have a home.

L: What do you mean?

Me: Well, dogs that are at the pound are there because they do not have a home. We have not had Bootz all of his life, so before we got him, he may have been brought to the pound as a puppy, or maybe his previous oweners couldn't give him a good home anymore so they brought him to the pound, or maybe Bootz was a stray dog before and the dog catcher got him and brought him to the pound? We don't really know where Bootzy lived before he lived at the pound before we gave him a good home.

L: thinking for a second....Bootzy was a Junk Yard Dog! :) Said in a cool, sly, smiling tone of voice!

Very funny to think of him picturing Bootz as a Junk Yard Dog!

(Bootz is one of our dogs that we got from a shelter before Lester was even born. And we have recently just told Lester that. AND he has also recently seen Lady and the Tramp 1 and 2, so he now knows about the dog catcher and the pound and Junk Yard Dogs!!!)
